About KTNV – 13 Action News LA
The channel first hit the waves on 4 May 1956 with the calls KSHO-TV under the ownership of T.V. Company of America, Inc. In 1979, WTMJ Inc. by The Journal Company, bought KSHO. This sale made Journal the only media outlet acquiring the second T.V. station. On 2 March 1980, the channel decided to move on to the new call-letters KTNV-TV. Later, they removed “T.V.” from the calls in 1988, which they again put back in 2009.
The station’s original antenna was situated outside the channel at the interchange of Valley View Boulevard and Desert Inn Road. It was on the quadruple border of Las Vegas, Winchester, Paradise, and Spring Valley. Later, the transmitter was shifted to Potosi Mountain and then to Arden Peak (the current location). On 30 July 2014, E.W. Scripps Company decided to purchase all assets of Journal Communications.
