- The end of the Los Angeles “classic seven” TV stations which were initially used to air on VHF.
ABC 7 Los Angeles was announced in 1947 and went on-air for the first time on 16th September 1949. The original name of the broadcaster was KECA, which was chosen in honor of the pioneer of the station “Earle C. Anthony.” The current callsign was switched on 1st February 1954. The first studios of the broadcaster were based on The Prospect Studios, located Prospect Avenue in the Los Feliz neighborhood. The location later changed as a part of the Disney Grand Central Creative Campus to a new facility in the Grand Central Business Centre. Cesar Pelli was the designer of this location. ABC 7 Los Angeles broadcasted on VHF channel 7 from 1949 to 2009, and on UHF channel 53 until 2009.
The HD production of the channel started on 4th February 2006 and became the first broadcaster in the entire state to air local newscasts in HD quality. Some other hardware equipment and studio upgrades were introduced to the set, as well as introducing theme music. On the 31st March 2009, the transmitter power was increased to 28,700 watts to strengthen its live streaming. Since the day of its launch, ABC 7 Los Angeles has continuously improved its services in every domain and currently watched by the audience all over the world.
