Rod Carter: News Anchor/Reporter at CBS 17
Rod Carter is a WNCN News personality who started working for Raleigh’s one of the most prominent TV stations CBS 17 News. He has been a part of the channel since March 2021. Rod always loved journalism and he was passionate about it since the beginning. Not, only journalism, Carter also has quite a name in the community service. Rod completed his High School at Amos P Godby High School in 1986 and got his BS Broadcast Journalism degree from the Florida A&M University in 1990. Carter also serves as a guide and mentor of the new talent and gives coaching to them. Furthermore, he has been teaching the short courses of NABJ-FAMU Journalism as an instructor and teaching students about broadcasting during the intensive weekend course.
He was also honored by the University of South Florida’s Zimmerman School of Advertising and Mass Communications as the Kappa Tau Alpha Hall of the Fame. Rod is also a Region 3 Director of the National Association of Black Journalists. Moreover, Carter also supervises multiple professional and student chapters around various US states. Rod also used to serve the Tampa Bay Association of Black Journalists as a President.
Past Work
Before being a part of CBS 17 Raleigh, Carter worked at WFLA News CH 8 from July 2000 to March 2032. Prior to that, he was a morning anchor at WVTM from July 2007 to March 2010. In October 1996, Carter was a member of Alabama’s 13 News team as a reporter; he left for WFLA in July 2000. From October 1995 to October 1996, Carter joined WAGT 26 News as a Fill-in Anchor/Reporter. Rod also acted as a Weekend Anchor-Reporter at WTXL ABC27 from August 1993 to October 1995. Carter started his journey in Broadcast Journalism as a Host/Producer/Reporter at WFSU News in August 1990, where he covered 3 public affairs shows that also include the award-winning program about American-African affairs.

The station’s exclusive CBS 17 Storm team is managed by Chief Meteorologist Wes Honstien. WNCN 17 weather team has been reporting weather coverage for more years than any other weather squad in the town. Honstein is accompanied by Paul Heggen, a competent meteorologist and weather scientist who has been teaching the other weather reporters for a long. Team members continue to grow along with the help of the area’s one of the most professional weather personalities Bill Reh.
No one knows the NC weather better than Bill Rey and Erin Clanahan. Erin Clanahan earned her Broadcast Meteorologist certification at a very young age, she was the youngest one to achieve this feat. Clanahan chases the weather with passion and appeared on several newscasts providing the latest weather news. She also conducts a morning traffic report of the weekday for CBS Raleigh. Covering the weather requires a lot of advanced and state-of-the-art technology including the interactive weather radar and weather truck called The Weather Beast. Bill Reh: Meteorologist at CBC 17 News
With 35 years of experience in reporting weather, Bill Reh has been serving CBS 17 Weather since March 2004 as an On-Air Weather Anchor. He produces and delivers accurate weather forecasts to the public. Bill also provides forecasts on the web, social media, and radio. Among several duties, Bill’s one of the duties is to represent Channel 17 Raleigh on multiple public events such as non-profit fundraiser events, Crop Walks, and Raleigh Saint Pat’s parade in 2010. He also provides stability and experience in dangerous weather situations, helps to build a relation with educational institutes within the area, launching the Cool School segments.
Reh has been in the weather business since 1983. While working at WTVD News, Bill covered various severe weathers including the 1984’s Red Springs terrible tornado outbreak, 1996’s Hurricane Fran, and 1988’s Raleigh’s killer tornado. Moreover, at WTVD (where he joined the team in August 1983), Bill wrote and compiled the exhibit known as As a Meteorologist for the Museum of Life and Science in Durham NC. He also served the Prudential Securities as a Financial Advisor in January
1997. Reh became a weather anchor at WB22 Raleigh in August 1998 and served the station for 5 years before finally becoming a part of the WNCN News Team. While working for WB22, Bill covered the 2000’s snowstorm of the century and Hurricane Floyd. Furthermore, Reh also introduced the first graphically depicted Ozone Maps in the United States and demonstrated a tutorial video at the San Antonio’s National Air Quality Conference in 2003.

WNCN TV first hit the waves on 11 April 1988 by using the calls WYED TV at CH 17. It provided coverage from the small network that majorly carried transmission from the HSN network, together with few religious and fishing programs that broadcasted during weeknights. Later, in July 1989, WNCN TV was bought by Beasley Broadcasting Group. Currently, it takes its primary programming from CBS, and secondary content from Grit, Court TV, and Charge. The station’s current owner is Nexstar Media Group.
