Station Overview:
The broadcaster was founded by the “Continental Broadcasting Network” as an independent broadcaster on 6th June 1971 by the name of WHAE-TV, an antonym for “Heaven And Earth.” Initially, the broadcasting of the channel was limited to six hours a day and had low budget programs in its lineup. The on-air time was increased to eight hours a day in 1972, where the additional two hours were dedicated to entertainment programming. In 1976, the station started to air 20 hours of programming by adding religious and secular syndicated shows to its lineup. The broadcaster changed its call letters to WANX-TV in the fall of 1977.

The ownership rights were transferred to Tribune Broadcasting in late 1983. After the acquisition, the name was changed to WGNX on 15th March 1984. WGNX became a CBS affiliate on 11th December 1994. The current owner Meredith Corporation announced to acquire the station on 23rd August 1998. After the completion of the acquisition, the call letter was changed to WGCL TV on 4th July 2000 and using it until the current date.
