Some more information about Channel 6 News Orlando
ClickOrlando News 6 first hit the waves on 1 July 1954 by using the calls WDBO-TV. The station’s original owners were Orlando Broadcasting Company, who also happened to manage WDBO radio. WDB-TV was the 6th oldest TV service in the Florida state. In 1957, Orlando Broadcasting decided to merge its assets with Cherry Broadcasting. One year later, the company sold its radio network to The Outlet Company. This was the first acquisition by the company outside of its home county i.e., Providence, Rhode Island.
On June 6, the station eventually flipped its calls from WDBO-TV TO WXPX-TV. The station used these callsigns for almost 16 years. In 1984, the network shifted to its present studios i.e., John Young. Later, the channel was sold to First Media Television. In 1997, the station’s new owners merged themselves with the Meredith Corporation that was already keeping a FOX affiliate Television network WOFL CH 35.
Currently, it is operating under the name of Graham Media Group with the call-letters WKMG-TV. It used to be an affiliate partner of ABC, CBS, NBC, and DuMont, but now it is a full-time CBS affiliate network.
