WSTM-TV first hit the air on 15 Feb 1959 with the calls WSYR- TV under the possession of Advance Publications together with WSYR Radio, Syracuse Herald-Journal, and Syracuse Post-Standard. It was the second TV network to start operations in Syracuse, right 1.3 years after WHEN-TV.
Currently, WSTM 3 operates under the ownership of Sinclair Broadcast Group. It is affiliated to NBC as a primary network and “The CW” and “Comet” as a secondary affiliate partner.

WSTM Live Doppler Radar
Channel 3 News Syracuse NY was the first channel in the market to use the Doppler radar system in 1985 and later established its own setup in 2000. It installed its own a in Onondaga, a site inheriting the radars of three more stations, i.e., WHEC News, WIVB News, and SUNY Brockport. However, later, WSTM-TV and WIVB-TV terminated their individual radars. Currently, in the channel’s weather segments, NBC3 Syracuse NY features three CNYCentral live radars, “NOAA National Weather Service radar” in Buffalo, Binghamton, and Montague. After doing these three internships, Sydney landed her first job in CNY Central Live as a full-time meteorologist.
Lydia Knox: Dedicated Weather Personality at CNYCentral
Lydia Knox is a meteorologist at the CNYCentral News Weather Authority team; she joined the squad in February 2019. As a Weather Personality, Knox loves to help people understanding the weather phenomenon and cares about effective communication. Her passion for the environment drives her to spread awareness among people about environmental issues.

After completing her studies at Penn States University in 2017 with a BS Meteorology degree, Lydia got a position at KMEG 14 Siouxland News as a meteorologist in June 2017. While pursuing her education, she did a 3-month internship at NBC, Connecticut in June 2016, before landing a job at Penn State University as a Teaching Assistant in August 2015. Currently, she serves NBC3 News Syracuse as a full-time anchor.

Melanie Johnson is the news expert with a proven history of doing journalism in the broadcast media industry. She has quite an experience in several fields, including Social Media, Final Cut Pro, Editing, and of course, media production. Melanie Johnson is presently working as a weekend news anchor at Channel 3 News Syracuse Live.
Johnson did her graduation from Howard University in 2014. However, she stepped into her career life in June 2007 when she became a Youth Worker at Carole Robertson Center for Learning. In September 2011, Melanie started working at Washington Middle Schools for Girls as a Volunteer. Then, she joined NAACP as a research Analyst in March 2012. Later, she got a chance to make a way into the TV industry when she became a part of CBS Denver as a Newsroom Intern. After completing the four-month internship in CBS Denver, she did two more internships before finally landing a job at KNOP-TV Nebraska as an Evening News Reporter in April 2015. Then, Johnson became a at WDKX-FM in November 2017 and ultimately joined WSTM 3 as a Weekend Reporter, producer, and anchor.
Jana Barnello: TV News Anchor at NBC3 News Syracuse
Jana Barnello managed the digital department at CNYCentral News and became a part of the squad in October 2018. With around ten years of experience in journalism, anchoring, and creating digital content, Jana has won several awards for her services. She was excited to be back in her hometown and covered several exciting stories that impact society.
Prior to WSTM Syracuse, Barnello used to work at WGME Portland as an anchor and reporter. She worked there for more than six years. She was nominated four times in New England Emmy Awards for reporting & live event coverage and received four Edward. R Murrow Awards for writing.
Even before that, Jana polished her reporting skills at WTVC News. During that time, she covered deadly tornado outbreaks, presidential politics, and everything else. However, Barnello started her journalism career at WFXL Albany. She got her graduation degree from the S.I. Newhouse School OF Public Communications at Syracuse University.
