Times Mirror Company by Los Angeles Times applied for KTTV license in December 1946. It was one of the five parties to whom FCC authorized a license to start a commercial T.V. in L.A. In 1948, CBS decided to buy 49 percent shares on Channel 11, and it officially hit the air for the first time on 1 January 1949.
Times-Mirror bought a facility Nassour Studios in May 1950 and started managing KTTV’s all operations there. CBS excluded itself from the deal and acquired its own station KTSL, later in 1950. This sale eventually made CBS give away KTTV’s entire ownership to the Los Angeles Times. Right after two years, KTTV gained DuMont Television affiliation.
In 1954, KTTV became an independent network after DuMont shifted its affiliation to KHJ-TV. In 1986, after moving through several ownerships, KTTV came under the ownership of Rupert Murdoch and his company. Just a year before, Rupert purchased considerable interests in the 20th century Fox company. This automatically made KTTV the Fox O&O TV service.
On 16 May 2006, the channel introduced the latest interface, “MyFox Interface,” to its website. It became the standard layout of the station’s website, which was also adopted by Fox’s other channels and started live streaming same time.
