Ruta Ulcinaite: Anchor/Reporter at WXMI 17
At Fox 17 Grand Rapids Mi Ruta Ulcinaite stepped into the industry in February 2017. She is a passionate news anchor and reporter and joined WXMI FOX 17 in June 2021. There isn’t much history about Ruta being here in WXMI TV since she only started working here two months ago, but Ulcinaite has strong storytelling skills. She always attributed her passion for news and storytelling to the amazing teachers and mentors at MSU, where she also completed an internship at WDIV News, The State News, and HOMTV Okemos. While serving the University, Ulcinaite was honored with various accolades including the award for her inclusive reporting from the Society of Professional Journalists. Ruta completed her degree in Broadcast Journalism and Political Science at Michigan State University in 2019.
Work Profile and Experience of Ruta
Before joining Fox 17, Ulcinaite was a member of the Multimedia Journalist team at Scripps Media Omaha-owned KMTV News from June 2019 to May 2021. While being a part of that station, she was a leading reporter covering the coronavirus reports, leading journalist providing unemployment coverage and coronavirus coverage in The Rebound franchise, and substitute anchor on weekend & evening programs.
Before that, Ulcinaite was a Producer and Assignment Desk Manager from September 2018 to December 2018 and then MMJ Reporter & Anchor from January 2018 to May 2019 at Focal Point News. In January 2018, Ruta became an Intern Reporter at HOMTV who was responsible for writing, editing and shooting content for various stories and packages on weekly basis. Moreover, Ulcinaite was also in charge of anchoring, reporting, camera work, control room, and producing the content. Prior to this, Ruta was an Assignment Desk Intern at WDIV Local 4 News aka ClickOnDetroit from May 2017 to August 2017.
While working for ClickOnDetroit, she supervised police scanners, publications for news tips/ ideas, and monitored competitor stations. Ruta also followed Up with fire and police departments. Meanwhile, she also used to gather, dismantle, and verify local information that could possibly be turned out to be newscasts and stories. Ulcinaite also visited the field, worked with photographers, observed reporters, and conducted interviews. Ruta started her work at The State News as an Intern Reporter from February 2017 to May 2017. During that internship, she wrote stories each week and researched and produced 3+ videos. Candace Monacelli: Meteorologist at WXMI Weather
Candace Monacelli is a weather anchor at Fox 17 who joined the channel in June 2017. Monacelli was born and brought up in the neighborhood of Cleveland, Ohio. She spent her time growing up beside the lake. Before Fox 17, Monacelli was a meteorologist at 21 WFMJ News from May 2015 to June 2017. While working for them, Candance prepared weather forecasts, conducted multimedia journalist tasks on weekday news telecasts, and provided remote interviews for a morning show. Candace completed her graduation at in Journalism in 2015. Plus, she was also enrolled at Mississippi State University in 2016 in Meteorology.
Candace’s Past Life
Monacelli was also an Associate Election Show Producer from November 2012 to December 2012 at TV2 Kent Ohio, where she helped cover the Ohio Primaires and Presidential Election. She also managed camera tasks and teleprompter during a taping of the telecast. Afterward, she was promoted to Field Hockey Reporter from August 2011 to December 2011. While serving as a Field Hockey Reporter Candice covered all home matches, shot b-roll during the match, and sometimes edit sports highlights for the digital content. In January 2012,
Monacelli was promoted to Correspondent where she participated in story ideas at meetings, anchored packages in the primetime news. Subsequently, she became a Track & Field Reporter from January 2012 to May 2012 in the same channel. In addition, she gave coverage to all home meets, prepared game highlights to display in the news headlines, conducted preview interviews, and more. Eventually, she became a Floor Director from January 2012 to May 2012. While she was a Floor Director, Candace helped the show run smoothly, hunt talent on-air, and manage communication between studio and control room.

About WXMI Grand Rapids
WXMI Grand Rapids first started operations on 18 March 1982 with the calls WWMA as an independent network. Heritage Broadcasting Company was the original owner and founder of the channel. An year later, extra shareholders took control of the channel and decided to change the calls to WXMI (the current callsigns) on 15 August 1983. Channel 17 News Grand Rapids MI became a Fox affiliate in 1987. WXMI 17 News currently serves under the ownership of E.W. Scripps Company and provides coverage from the studios located in the northern area of Grand Rapids on Plaza Drive. However, WXMI 17 antenna is installed in Middleville’s southwest area.
