About KEYT News
KEYT-TV first hit the air on 31 May 1953 with the same callsigns. The channel was initially owned by Santa Barbara Broadcasting & Television Corporation. However, Harry Butcher also happened to possess a 14 percent share in the channel. During the fifties, KEYT used to take content from all four networks, including CBS, ABC, , and NBC Network. In 1956 DuMont decided to move on; this left KEYT News with only CBS, NBC, and ABC. However, later NBC also discontinued its services.
In 2007, when News Channel 3 decided to adopt HD transmission, KEYT-TV wasn’t accessible at first to the cable customers on the Central Coast because of some local dispute. Later, KEYT 3 got in terms with Cox Communications to carry the HD services in Santa Barbara, Charter Spectrum to serve San Luis Obispo, and Comcast in Santa Maria.
