About KGW News
KGW TV first hit the air on 15 December 1956 at channel number 8. Since KGW radio was an ABC affiliate network, KGW TV also took content from ABC Network in its initial years. However, later, on 26 April 1959 KGW News switched affiliated with KPTV CH 12 which was an NBC affiliate. The station started constructing a new broadcast tower in January 1964 at 1501 SW Jefferson Street. It has been serving the channel’s headquarters as well as the main studios since then.
KGW News studios are available in Southwestern Portland’s Jefferson Street. The channel’s transmitter, however, is installed in the Sylvan-Highlands portion of the city. KGW TV also acted as the regional news station Northwest Cable News’ Portland bureau before they decided to terminate the service on 6 January 2017.
