History of KPIX TV
KPIX 5 News first hit the waves on 22 December 1948. Channel 5 was the first TV service in Northern California and the 49th one in the USA. The network’s first owner was Associate Broadcasters, who also happened to co-own KSFO 560 AM. At first, it used to broadcast from the transmitter facility atop Nob Hills in Mark Hopkins Hotel. Later it was moved to Mount Sutro together with KGO-TV.
Currently, KPIX TV Bay Area is owned and managed by CBS Television Stations with the callsigns KPIX-TV.
