KNBC News first hit the waves on 16 January 1949 as KNBH. It was the overall second last station to sign on in the market of Los Angeles. Though, it was the last station O&O by NBC network in the area. The station originally used to air the transmission from its studios located on the Hollywood’s Vine Street, Sunset Boulevard, from NBC Radio City Studios.
On 18 October 1954, the channel decided to flip the calls from KNBH to KRCA. Later, they once again changed them into KNBC on 11 November 1962. The move occurred when NBC decided to remove them from their radio service in San Francisco and allotted them to Channel 4 LA.
In August 1986, the station officially changed its call-letter into KNBC-TV; later, when General Electric bought both RCA and NBC, they removed the suffix TV from it on 6 September 1995.
