About NBC Los Angeles
KNBC News first hit the waves on 16 January 1949 as KNBH. It was the overall second last station to sign on in the Los Angeles market. Though, it was the last station O&O by NBC network in the area. The station initially used to telecast from its studios located on Hollywood’s Vine Street, Sunset Boulevard, from NBC Radio City Studios. Unlike the rest, KNBC was the only TV channel that didn’t benefit from its sibling channel. Despite having a long-term affiliation with KFI LA Radio, NBC Radio Network didn’t continue its relationship with KFI-TV (now KCAL-TV) that hit the air in Aug 1948. After KNBH hit the air, it became the only channel on West Coast that started NBC programming in the region.

On 18 October 1954, the channel decided to flip the calls from KNBH to KRCA. Later, they once again changed them into KNBC on 11 November 1962. The move occurred when NBC decided to remove them from their radio service in San Francisco and allotted them to Channel 4 LA. That callsign flip corresponded with the network’s physical repositioning from NBC Radio City to the channel’s color broadcast studio facility located in Burbank’s suburbs. The new TV Production Facility was 4 to 5 times bigger than Radio City, which was operational since March 1955.
NBC Los Angeles’ Official Transformation to KNBC-TV
In August 1986, the station officially changed its call-letter into KNBC-TV; later, when General Electric bought both RCA and NBC, they removed the suffix TV from calls on 6 September 1995.
NBCUniversal declared on 11 October 2007 that it would sell its Burbank office and rebuild the latest all-digital facility close to the Universal City’s Universal Studios Hollywood Backlot, in an attempt to merge all the West Coast operations of NBCUniversal in a single place. Following that, all three facilities (KNBC, NBC News’ Los Angeles, KVEA) moved to a new digital location on the Universal lot, previously possessed by
. The facility’s inauguration occurred on 1 Feb 2014. After a short period of time, NBCUniversal named it Brokaw News Center to honor its ex-NBC News reporter. In the last few months of 2007, when NBC Los Angeles Digitalize the whole facility, the network started broadcasting all-day-long NewsChannel News Raw. On 2 June 2009, KNBC terminated its analog transmission over VHF CH 4 following the mandatory digital transmission by a Federal Government.

NBC News Los Angeles has been working under the ownership of NBC Owned Television Stations since the foundation and has been operating at Virtual CH 4 in many of the US areas. Besides airing its own primary content, NBC 4 Los Angeles takes secondary content from LX and Cozi-TV.
