Channel Overview:

The broadcaster was born on 8th October 1948 by the name of WNBQ. It was the third station of NBC’s five original owned-and-operated TV channels and fourth TV channel to start in Chicago. Initially, the on-air time of the station was limited to two hours only. The first studios of the station were located on the 19th Floor of the Merchandise Mart. The station dropped it’s initially calls and switched to its current moniker on 31st August 1964. The broadcaster changed its studio’s space from Merchandise Mart to NBC Tower. The station was home for annually held Chicago Marathon from 2001 to 2002, and 2008. The broadcaster made a partnership deal with Chicago Fire Soccer Club to air their 2012 season matches through NBC 5 Chicago’s platform. On 6th December 2011, the station partnered with “The Chicago Reporter.”
