As an NBC Affiliated Station

In January 1995, KYW-TV’s sister stations in Baltimore and Boston switched to CBS January 1995. The deal was postponed as CBS saw the abrubt sale of channel 10 would cause it to forcefully pay taxes. To resolve this problem, CBS, NBC, and Group W entered into an advanced ownership and affiliation deal in November 1994. To make the sale for WCAU an honest trade, NBC moved KUTV in Salt Lake City (a station that NBC had only acquired earlier that year) andKCNC-TV in Denver. The primary purpose was to gain to CBS in exchange; additionally, the NBC and CBS stations in Miami traded broadcasting facilities, with CBS moving to the stronger of the 2 signals. CBS then bought an interest in KCNC and KUTV News to Group W reciprocally for a minority stake in KYW-TV. Officially, the deal happened on September 10, 1995.
