John Carter is the senior news anchor at WBTV News 3 in Charlotte, NC. Previously, he started working at WBTV as a news assistant. John performed several roles at WBTV like general assignment reporter, Western Bureau Chief/reporter, news producer/managing editor, and some others. About WBTV News
WBTV News 3 was the first TV channel in the Carolinas. Since 1949, the channel reached a commitment to the communities they serve in Charlotte and beyond. The news station initially started its services on 15th July 1949 with facility ID 30826. Whereas, the owner of the television channel is (Gray Television Licensee, LLC). It was the 13th TV channel in the United States. Atlanta-based Gray Television announced on 25th June 2018 to reached an agreement with Raycom to merge their broadcasting assets. Previously, WBTV 3 carried an SD simulcast of the channel’s main channel on its 2nd digital subchannel.
Furthermore, the 3rd subchannel resumed operations upon the launch of Bounce Television on 26th September 2011. On 1st January 2012, WBTV switched the subchannels for Bounce TV and This TV due to a contractual obligation. WBTV was one of the most dominant TV channels of the country for several years. The channel claims credit for several TV “firsts”, among them during the construction of the first building in the U.S.

At present, WBTV broadcasts 40½ hours of locally produced newscasts every week. It includes 6½ hours every weekday and four hours every Saturday and Sunday. Whereas, for most of its first thirty years on the air, the station’s newscasts dominated the Nielsen ratings in Charlotte. The station debuted an hour-long 04:00 pm newscast in September 2010.
Furthermore, WBTV started producing a two-hour extension of its weekday morning newscast on 22nd January 2014. The morning newscast daily air from 07:00 to 09:00 am as well as an hour-long primetime newscast at 08:00 pm.
