About WCJB News
WCJB TV started airing programming on 17 April 1971 under the ownership of William E. Bill Minshall. The channel’s original content provider was an NBC Network which is one of the Top-rated media broadcasters till today. WCJB Gainesville originally broadcast on a UHF signal CH 20, with the call WCJB. The call-signs were originated from the initials of its family members Casey (Daughter), JoAnn (wife), and Bill himself. The WCJB News changed its affiliation to ABC after only two years of operation, mainly because ABC held exclusive rights at the time to broadcast college football. Since 1976, Diversified Communications has owned WJCB TV 20 News.
In 2001, the channel became digitalized and started airing its operations on UHF CH 16. Moreover, Channel 20 News Gainsville Fl was one of ABC’s affiliates that broadcast Saving Private Ryan in 2004, since WFTV, a Cox-owned network, exempted it from the broadcast. Its viewing area includes Lake City in the Jacksonville market, most parts of North Central Florida, as well as Ocala in the Orlando DMA.
