About WKBW News
The frequency Channel 7 was kind of premium frequency during the 50s, a hard to get. Sherwin Grossman and Buffalo Courier-Express attempted several times to acquire the license but didn’t succeed. The competition to get the frequency grew, even more, when Buffalo’s WBES-TV flopped in the market. Finally, Clinton Churchill managed to attain the license for CH 7 in 1957.
After sorting out a few of the problems, WKBW News ultimately hit the air on 30 November 1958 as the new ABC affiliate TV channel in the Buffalo market. In 1961, Churchill decided to sell WKBW News Buffalo to Capital Cities Broadcasting. The channel worked under the new owners for so long and aired kid’s shows such as and Rocketship 7 from 60s o 80s. The network’s mainstream TV program was a morning show “Dialing for Dollar”, which later rebranded into “AM Buffalo”.
