About WLUC TV
The station carried programming from all three networks offered at that time but was a primary CBS affiliate. Both WDMJ and WDMJ Radio (1320 AM) were owned by the Daily Mining Journal. On Washington Street in Downtown Marquette, it had its studios in the Mining Journal building on the top floor.

The station’s facilities quickly outgrew their capacity. Station studios in Negaunee Township were built in 1959. Post Corporation purchased the station in 1964, which owned WLUK-TV in Wisconsin, and renamed it “Lucky 6” to reflect its name at the time. Moreover, a network program first aired on WLUC in color in 1963 and all locally produced shows began airing in color in 1969 after the station purchased videotape equipment in color. As a result, its transmitter was moved to the southeast of the country and its original transmitter was demolished near its studios in Negaunee.
Studio facilities for WLUC-TV are located in Negaunee Township on US 41/M-28, and the station’s transmitter is located southeast of Republic in Republic Township. In order for WLUC’s primary signal to reach areas in Marquette that receive poor reception from the station’s transmitter, the station’s primary transmitter is relayed on translator station W14EM-D channel 14 (also mapped to virtual channel 6).
