WNEM TV5 News has a skilled team of news anchors, reporters, executive producers, digital content producers, continuous news manager, and assignment desk reporters are working tirelessly to provide the most important news to the public. The team operates a separate news bureau at the Saginaw Street’s Wade Trim Building in Downtown Flint. The channel’s talented news team covers news at 4:30 am, 5 am, 6 am, and 9 am, 12 pm, 5 pm, 5:30 pm, 6 pm, and 11 pm. On Saturday, they telecast a morning program at 8 am, and on Sunday, they air a 2-hour long news show. Kendall Keys: Journalist at WNEM TV5 News
Kendall Keys is a news reporter and multimedia journalist at WNEM News. She joined the station in July 2020. Kendall has been in love with the journalism world since the beginning. But, when she studied broadcast journalism, public relations, and news reporting & editing, it furthered her passion and love for journalism, and she decided to pursue her career in the relevant field. Keys is among the highly skilled journalists in the state and loves to tell meaningful stories to the public.
Kendall studied Arts, Public Relations, Criminal Justice, Strategic Communication, and Broadcast Journalism from Indiana University Bloomington in 2016. However, keys started working as a legal secretary at Tourkow, Crell, Rosenblatt, and Johnstone Law Office in May 2017. 2 years later, Kendall was working for WANE 15 as a News Intern in May 2019. Later, she became a part of WTHR News in August 2019.
After completing her five-month internship at WTHR, Keys moved to Indiana University Student Television and started working as Co-Host in August 2018, and eventually became a News Director in March 2019. Ultimately, Kendall found her way into WNEM live as a Multimedia Journalist in July 2020 and currently serving the Flint community for more than nine months.
David Custer: WNEM TV’s Main Anchor
David Custer is among the most talented journalists at WNEM 5. He joined the station in October 2013 as a Main Anchor and has been anchoring weeknight programs at 5, 6, 10, and 11 pm. Custer also writes, copy, edit, and report content for the channel’s three main programs. Plus, he conducts reports for 10 pm news on digital platforms and comes live on Facebook every single night. David is a highly recognized journalist who has claimed five regional Emmys from 11 nominations. Moreover, he also has received Ruby Award by Great Lake Bay Region for being the brightest professional under 40 in 2018. For the last five years, Custer has been recognized by the Great Lakes Bay Magazine as the region’s Greatest News Anchor in 2019.
David has also claimed numerous Michigan Association of Broadcasters and Associated Press Awards and lately has been recognized among the Best News Personalities in 2019. The best thing so far that happened to Custer was that several communities have acknowledged him for his remarkable work and labeled him a role model to emerging journalists.
Custer’s Career
David Custer did her graduation in Communications from the University of Michigan-Flint in 1998. Soon after that, he joined WBKB News as an Anchor and Reporter in October 2002 and started delivering reports daily. In June 2003, Custer joined WSMH Fox 66 and WNEM News as an Anchor/Reporter and anchored weekend news programs. Later, David Custer became a part of WNWO Barrington Broadcasting as the Main Anchor in June 2008 and began to co-host 6 pm, 7 pm, and 11 pm newscasts in Toledo. After serving the Ohio community for more than one year, Custer decided to pursue his career in WNEM TV5 News as the Main Anchor in October 2013. It has been seven years and six months now that David has been covering the reports in the Flint area.

WNEM Weather has a team of proficient meteorologists called First Warn 5 working in Flint City and providing the required weather feed to the area. The team operates their exclusive WNEM radar called First Warn 5 Pinpoint Doppler Radar. Meanwhile, the First Warn 5 team also offers severe weather news reporting & alerts, WNEM 7-day forecast, weather lab, weather cams, bus stop forecast, and WNEM school closings. WTV5 staff of weather anchors and reporters keep a close eye over the Bay Area and Flint climate situation and deliver the timely and accurate forecast to the community. The team consists of Bran Bachman (Chief Meteorologist), Chris Easlick, Dan Giroux, John Gross, and Kylee Miller.
Chris Easlick: Meteorologist at WNEM Weather
Chris Easlick has been serving the WNEM Weather department for more than four years as a Weekday Meteorologist. He delivers the reliable, viewers-friendly, and most accurate forecast to the community during the weekday morning news programs from 4:30 AM to 7 AM and at 9 am during the lifestyle-type news show. Plus, sometimes, Easlick also co-anchors the 9 AM program. Chris feared severe weather like storms and tornadoes in his childhood. However, the fear grew into a passion when he grew up and watched Twister movie in the fourth grade.
He was stunned by nature and weather. Soon after that, his parents realized that Chris watches more of Weather Channel instead of Cartoon Network. Easlick received his bachelor’s degree in Meteorology from Centra Michigan University in 2015. Though, he started an internship in meteorology at WWM TV in the last year of his University in June 2014. During his internship in WWMT News, Chris assisted in creating daily forecasts, social media, and graphic content. Managed social sites during severe weather and made day-to-day forecasts for the channel’s website.
In September 2011, Easlick began his career at News Central 34 as a Meteorologist, where he delivered reliable and accurate weather forecasts twice a week. Plus, he also created relevant graphics based on several forecast conditions. In August 2018, Chris became an Adjunct Physics Professor at Saginaw Valley State University and still working there as a part-timer. Easlick joined WNEM Weather as a Meteorologist Trainee in April 2015, then he became a staff meteorologist in July 2015 and one year later became a Weekday Morning Meteorologist in November 2016.
Kylee Miller: Certified Broadcast Meteorologist at WNEM TV5 Weather
Klee Miller is an Award-Winner weather personality at WNEM Weather who has been serving the Flint community for more than three years. She is a Certified Broadcast Meteorologist who earned her certification from the American Meteorological Society. Kylee originally belongs to Michigan. She did an ECA (Early College Alliance) program from Eastern Michigan University. The same University where she did her graduation with an associate degree by attending both junior and senior years of high school. In her spare time, Miller enjoys watching U of M football and loves to boat in Lakes. Moreover, she also cheers on the sports teams in Detroit. After completing high school, Miller started Meteorology at Central Michigan University. Kylee received a scholarship from Midwest Communications Inc. for her weather services at Central Michigan University through the Michigan Association of Broadcasters. Kylee also appeared on the website of Central Michigan University in the Fired Up and Focused Section to promote the News Central 34 program and the Meteorology.

Kylee’s Career
After finishing her degree in 2016, Miller started an internship at WLNS News in December 2014. During her internship at WLNS Lancing, Kylee acted as a fill-in weather personality for the holiday season. In July 2015, she became a weekend meteorologist at WILX NEWS, where she used to cover the Morning Show at 7 AM and Night program at 6 pm. Miller started working as a full-time meteorologist at Sinclair Broadcast Group (NBC25 CW46 Fox 66) in September 2015 and served the media industry for around nine months. She used to conduct weekend shows at 6 and 11 pm. Her job description includes providing the accurate weather forecast, recording, broadcasting, and teasing Saturday AM News, and acting as a fill-in meteorologist for workweek morning and night shifts.
In April 2016, Miller became a part of WeatherNation and conducted forecasts for the entire weather around the US and the Caribbean. Covered non-stop severe weather transmission, love shots in the field, interviews, and not to mention the storm chasing. Moreover, she also clearly explained the vital information about the severe weather to the US public. However, after serving the WeatherNation for only one year, Kaylee moved on to WWJ CBS Detroit as a weather anchor in May 2017. In November 2017, Miller began to work at Chanel 5 News Flint as a Meteorologist and still serving the station to date.

WNEM’s Initial Original Programming
There isn’t any solid record found about the initial programming of the station. However, few shows to remember from history are Hoss ‘n’ Stuff, Chester the Clown, Captain Muddy, Hot Dog, Popeye Cartoons, Jumping Cowboy, and Adventure Patrol. Hoss ‘n’ stuff show was about a puppet horse controlled by Jim Adams where mailman Stuff role was portrayed by Chuck Waters. Stuff would pay a visit to the Horse at the Fence and exchange a comedy dialogue with Stuff being a regular straight guy.

About WNEM TV5 News
WNEM TV started operating on 16 February 1956 as an NBC affiliate service under the NorthEastern Michigan Corporation; the cannel’s calls are taken from its original owners. WNEM TV’s main studios were installed on rented place at Flint’s
with auxiliary studios situated in Bay City. For the first four years, WNEM TV5 live had a secondary affiliation with ABC Network. The station also used to take content from DuMont until the network turned off in August 1956.In 1961, the Gerity Broadcasting by the James Gerity, purchased the channel. Later, he decided to sell it Meredith Corporation in 1969. Around 80s, the channel shifted its primary studio facilities to the current place in downtown Saginaw.

WNEM Became a CBS Affiliate
On 16 January 1956, WNEM News and WEYE News decided to swap their affiliate partners and following that WNEM TV became a CBS affiliate service. This swap was a part of one of the biggest US TV network affiliation switches in 1994.
In this swap WJBK, the CBS’ longtime partner in Detroit, transferred to the Fox Network. The CBS failed to get WXYZ News, WADL, WDIV, WKBD, WXON to change networks; CBS eventually bought an independent network WGPR News and changed is calls into WWJ in December 1994. When WNEM Live got CBS affiliation, it also started airing content from The WB and UPN at night as the secondar affiliate partner. In 1999, the station let go of the secondary affiliation of WB; instead the affiliate partner began to provide content to WEYI.
In 1996, it relinquished the daytime soap opera program Guiding Light because of low rating. Currently, WNEM News studios are situated in downtown Saginaw’s North Franklin Street. Its second news bureau operates at downtown Flint. Though, the network’s transmitter site is located on the east side of Saginaw in Robin Glen-Indiantown a Becker Road. Moreover, at present, the channel’s primary source of content is CBS since the 1995. However, its secondary affiliate partners are Ion Television, CoziTV and MyNetworkTV.
