The network’s newscast team maintains stability in its newsroom and provides up-to-the-minute coverage to the Indy community. They also have a few Emmy winners in their team that is admired for their remarkable services. On 7 September 2013, Channel 6 News Indianapolis initiated a weekend morning news service, i.e., 1-hour long transmission from 6 am to 7 am & an extra 2-hours from 8 am to 10 am on Sat and 0.5 hours on Sun. In addition, it pulled back the Morning news service to its weekend edition. Due to this extension in the newscast, the channel added eight on-screen and behind-the-screen workers to the team. Lauren Casey, Marc Mullins, Nikki Dementri and Cameron Riddle are talented and aspiring names.
Marc Mullins: Anchor at Channel 6 Indy
Marc Mullins is an Emmy winner news host, producer, and reporter providing excellent coverage of breaking news and local stories for more than 20 years. He is also a highly motivated news journalist with a solid background in live journalism, anchoring, writing. Plus, he is famous at a national level in the field of broadcast journalism.
Mullins completed his education at Boston University in 1998 in BS Broadcast Journalism. Right after graduating from the University, he got a reporting job at KPAX-TV in August 1998. After serving there for almost two years, Marc became an anchor at KMTR-TV in May 2000. Later, in April 2003, he started working at WGCL-TV as a fill-in anchor and reporter. In August 2005, Marc Mullins again joined KMTR-TV as a Managing Editor, reporter, and anchor. Ultimately, in December 2012, he found a WRTV News position as an anchor of Good Morning Indiana show. After struggling, therefore, around five years, Marc became a lead anchor at WRTV News at 5, 6, 7, and 11 pm.
Kara Kenny is a diligent call 6 investigator at WRTV News. She always defends what’s right and raises questions against those who are in power. Alyssa Donovan is an astute Meteorologist at the RTV 6 Team who became a part of the channel’s weather team StormTeam 6 in 2018. About WRTV News
WRTV News first hit the waves on 30 May 1949 with the calls WFBM-TV. Channel 6 was the oldest TV service in Indiana that was established by Consolidated Television & Radio Broadcasters. The company was a daughter company of the Bitner Group that also happened to possess WFBM 1260 AM Radio. Moreover, the very first telecast to air on the screen was the “Crucible of Speed” documentary. It was about the early Indianapolis 500 auto race history. Later, the network broadcasted the live TV telecast of the event. Newscast Services at ABC 6 Indianapolis
WRTV News airs 29.5 hours of locally produced news service every week, i.e., 5.5 hours on Mon-Fri and 1 hour each on Sat-Sun. For its first forty years of in-service period, WRTV was the dominant news network in the market.
By the 1980s, the channel’s news audience even topped the combined viewership of WTHR and WISH. However, in the mid of 1980s, WISH took a jump and got in the first position leaving WTHR at the second position even after the network’s longtime news host Howard Caldwell left the channel in 1994. Though, later in 1996, when ABC 6 Indianapolis made some changes to its botched format, the network’s ratings surged, giving a competition to the first place WTHR channel.
WRTV News has introduced numerous innovative technologies over the years. It was the area’s first TV channel to use minicams to collect the news content and record local transmission on a videotape. Also, It was also the first to use a satellite uplink vehicle known as NewStar 6 to deliver the live footage from remote areas, the first to use microwave relay transmitters to show the live video from the field, the first to operate VoDcasting, and the first to use digital news Cam.
