About WTVA Live
With the call letters WTWV, the station started broadcasting on March 18, 1957. In Syracuse, Spain’s garage, backyard, and basement were used to create the antenna, transmitter, cameras, and other equipment for the broadcast.
Spain hopes that his good relationship with NBC officials will lead to affiliation for his new station with the broadcaster. Tupelo, however, was considered a less desirable place by several NBC executives because of its rural location despite the fact that most viewers in northern Mississippi were able to watch NBC only through grade B broadcasts from WLBT in Jackson, Mississippi, WMC-TV in Memphis, Tennessee, and WAPI-TV in Birmingham, Alabama.
