For most of the time, KPAX News remained a part of the CBS Network. The channel, however, had a shared ABC affiliation with KGVO News until 1976. Later, they decided to discontinue the agreement when both KPAX News and KXLF put ABC in their primary slot, making CBS the secondary affiliate partner being attached with KGVO. In 1984, KPAX News came back to CBS and started airing ABC programming during off-hours along with KECI News until KTMF decided to hit the waves in 1990.

Sample, later, decided to sell the CBS Missoula along with other MTN channels to SJL, Inc in 1984 for 20m dollars. Eventually, in 1986, SJL sold KPAX 8, KRTV, and KXLF News in Great Falls to Cordillera Communications, the subsidiary of Evening Post Publishing company, for 24m dollars.
KPAX News studios are situated in Missoula’s West Central Avenue. Meanwhile, the channel’s transmitter is situated on the northside of a TV Moutain.

Curtis, were shareholders in KYUS News Miles City and KOUS News Billings. They later decided to sell the station to Cordillera in 1988. In 2011, the station’s calls were changed to KAJJ-CA, and then in 2012, they became KAJJ-CD.
