In the past, Channel 8 News Portland Maine ranked third in the local news market for the most part of its history. ECSH and WGME-TV were the leading news channels. Lately, however, WMTW 8 news has shifted the pattern and beat WGME News for a second spot. In order to achieve this goal, WMTW Channel 8 News took several challenges and made multiple variations to its news department and news team. On 2 January 2010, WMTW Maine News added a weekend morning show in its lineup, offering direct competition to the WCSH News. This and many other news amendments made Channel 8 News Portland Maine stand out in the crowd and WMTW News Team helped the station achieving this milestone.

Cristina Frank: Morning News Anchor at WMTW 8 News
Cristina Frank is a passionate journalist who has been working as a Morning Anchor at WMTW News 8 since January 2016. She has extensive experience in journalism and worked with various reputable news channels over the years.
Cristina’s passion for journalism earned her great success in a short period of time. She loves her work and never compromises on the credibility of the story. Cristina Frank completed her education at Ohio University in 2006 in BS Journalism.
Cristina’s News Career
Prior to joining the WMTW News team, Cristina was an Evening Anchor and Reporter at KSNT TV from January 2013 to January 2016. During these three years, Frank anchored the channel’s 6 pm news service, as well as the 6:30 pm news telecast of KTKA and the 9 pm newscast of KTMJ News. Other than these, she was responsible for reporting on special projects. Cristina also reported the coverage of First Lady Michelle Obama’s visit to the Topeka High Schools in 2014 where she gave a commencement speech. In addition, Frank interviewed both Democratic and Republican candidates of the US Senate Race in 2014.
Frank also worked at WBNG News as a Morning/Noon Anchor from August 2010 to December 2012. During that period, Cristina reported multiple exciting stories including the flood that devastated the region, Tropical Storm Lee, and Hurricane Irene. Moreover, she also took the audience on a trip to a ghost hunt at a haunted inn.

From October 2009 to August 2010, she was a Communications Director at Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Where she handled media queries, wrote press releases, managed large volumes of constituent cases, and research legislation. Cristina was also a reporter at KIMT News from January 2007 to February 2009. While working there, she reported the incident in Minneapolis in which a bridge collapsed in 2007 at I-35 W. Cristina was also responsible for covering the Dalai Lama’s honorable trip to the Mayo Clinic and flying together with the Second World War veterans to Washington DC on the area’s inaugural Honor Flight.
More About Frank’s Career
Frank was an Associate Producer at WCVB News from June 2006 to December 2007. She reported various events while working for WOUB News as an Anchor and Reporter from September 2003 to June 2006. Cristina completed a 7-months internship at WVIT News from June 2004 to December 2004. She also worked as a Contributing Writer at Community Advocate Newspaper from May 2003 to December 2004.
Since Cristina is experiencing Type one diabetes disease, she is dedicated to educating people about diabetes such as Why it’s dangerous and how one can avoid it. You can often see her contributing in blogs and chats about diabetes and raising funds for diabetes patients with JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation). Frank lives happily with her fiancee in New England. She loves spending time with her family and friends. In addition, Cristina loves and fully supports her hometown team Boston Red Sox!.
Talia Clarke: News Reporter and MMJ at WMTW News
Talia Clarke is has been a part of the WMTWChannel 8 team since April 2019. She works as a News Reporter and Multimedia Journalist and covers multiple types of stories in a week.
She has been a great asset to the WMTW News in terms of reporting and journalism since Talia Clarke is sharp and thinks rationally while investigating the stories. Talia completed High School with a 3.0 GPA at the Central Catholic High School in 2012. She earned a degree in Communications at Westfield State University with a 3.128 GPA.
Talia’s Past Work
Prior to WMTW News, she was an Anchor/Reporter first at WMCT News from September 2017 to April 2018, then became a News Director from May 2018 to March 2019. While working there as a News Director, Talia gathered news content and aided people in guiding the news coverage. In addition, she conducted interviews, operated a camera, performed in-studio anchor tasks, wrote news content and special content, produced a weekly news program, edited shows with the help of Final Cut, and run prompter for other types of production in the studio.
Clarke also worked at WHDH TV, 7 News as a Writer from September 2016 to December 2017. While working for 7 News, Talia wrote breaking news stories, sent videos to editors, helped reporters in the field with run-times, and worked with strict deadlines. Furthermore, Talia was a full-time Intern at the Office of Student Financial Assistance from May 2016 to August 2016. Clarke also completed a 4-months internship at Ventana Productions as a Full-Time Intern from January 2016 to April 2016.

From September 2013 to December 2016, Talia was a Cast Member at Dunkin Donuts. There, she used to provide remarkable customer services, train or teach newbies on multiple tasks, and manage credit/cash transactions. Talia completed another internship at the Massachusetts Department of Higher Education from May 2015 to August 2015. Her other jobs include Cash Control Leadership Position at Canobie Lake Park from May 2014 to June 2015 and Waitress/Cashier at the same company from May 2012 to June 2013.

Roger Griswold: Chief Meteorologist at WMTW Maine Weather
Roger Griswold has been a part of WMTW 8 since September 2008 as a Chief Meteorologist. He has been exploring the weather in several parts of the USA for over 25 years. He became the Chief Meteorologist at the station soon after becoming a part of the ABC News Portland. Roger’s remarkable weather services earned him several Best Weathercast awards in Maine from the Main Association of Broadcasters. Not to mention, his amazing forecasting skills which have landed him the title of Most Accurate Forecaster since 2017. Weather is more of a hobby for Griswold instead of a career and he calls himself lucky enough to land this opportunity. When not chasing weather, Roger Griswold can be found serving the Executive Committee for Pine Tree Council and volunteering for Scouting BSA. Roger earned a degree in Meteorology at Iowa State University as well as at the Lyndon State College.
Griswold lives in Cumberland Center along with his wife Wendy and a dog. Roger’s interests include downhill skiing, canoe trips, summer backpacking, and family camping. Before WMTW Chanel 8 News, Roger Griswold used to work at WCSH News as a Meteorologist from October 1995 to July 2009. He started his career at WMUR News and WTIC News, where he acted as a New England Weather Services’ Director. Roger was also an Application Engineer at WSI Corporation in September 1989 and worked there for 7 years and 2 months.
Ted McInerney: Meteorologist at WMTW Weather
Ted McInerney has always been passionate about storms and tracking storms is more than work for him; it’s a hobby. Ted has reported multiple severe kinds of weather over the years including Alabama’s warm climate, mid-west largest blizzards, historic flooding in the Mississippi River, severe storms, and cold winters. McInerney joined the station’s Maine’s Total Weather Team in January 2016. Since joining, he has covered various weather events in town. Other than chasing tornadoes, Ted McInerney also had an opportunity to cover Hurricane Isaac as it left the Gulf Coast devastated. McInerney loves visiting several classrooms in Maine and educating students with the channel’s Weather At Your School Program. There he explains Maine’s Total Weather to the children. Together with his wife Amy, Ted resides in Gorham.
In the summer, they enjoy going to the beach and in the winter, they enjoy snowshoeing. Further, they love to explore different colors while visiting state parks in the Autumn. Both Ted and Amy love visiting Acadia National Park during the summer and camp there frequently. McInerney is a member of the American Meteorological Society as well as the
.Ted’s Meteorological Career
McInerney was a Meteorologist at CBS42 from March 2011 to December 2015, before joining WMTW News as a Morning Meteorologist. Prior to that, Ted was a part of WHBF News as a first as Photographer and General Assignment Reporter and then as a full-time Meteorologist from December 2007 to March 2011.
While working there, Ted’s duties include bringing the story ideas regularly on a daily basis, shooting/writing/editing/providing live news reports. He also reported The Great Midwest Flood of 2008, Illinois and Iowa Election in the same year, covered detailed coverage of Thompson Prison’s sale to the Federal Government, and traveled in Washington’s Honor Flight in 2009. As a Meteorologist at WHBF News, McInerney forecasted, produced, and provided weather forecasts for the channel’s weekend news. Reported severe weather in the Midwest such as tornado warnings,
recorded video forecasts daily, updated station’s digital content on a website, filled in the weather anchor position, and hosted live backyard weather forecasts. From September 2006 to May 2007, Ted was a weathercaster at BSC TV Campus Media. He began his career as a Meteorologist at WGRZ News from January 2006 to May 2006. Ted acquired a degree in Geography, Climatology, Meteorology, and GIS in 207 at the State University of New York College at Buffalo. He also did a Spanish Language Course at AIP Language Institute – Valencia in 2005.

About WMTW TV
WMTW Portland hit the air with the same calls on 25 September 1954 as the market’s third TV channel. The founder of WMTW 8 was Mount Washington Television. WMTW 8 has been taking content from the ABC network since the launch. However, during its first year, the channel aired some DuMont programming as well.
WMTW News works together with WPXT CH 51, the CW/MyNetworkAffiliate TV channel that is also providing services to Portland. Both channels operate under the same roof in the shared studios in Westbrook’s Ledgeview Drive. However, WMTW 8 transmitter is installed in West Baldwin, Maine.
