Additionally, the meteorologist covered earthquakes, snowstorms, and even volcanoes at the Great Northwest as head of Northwest Cable News. Clay helped launch Tampa Bay News 9 as the original meteorologist on Your Morning News in 1997. According to Mike, his most memorable moment was the morning of 13th August 2004 when Channel 9 Tampa forecast Hurricane Charley.

He received his meteorology degree from Mississippi State University and also held a degree in telecommunications. In 1995, Mike received the AMS TV Seal of Approval and later upgraded to the AMS Certified Seal. Likewise, he holds the National Weather Association’s television and Radio Seal of Approval. Mike and his coworker won a Florida Suncoast Emmy in 2010. Besides, he won a Florida Associated Press award for Best Weathercast for bad weather coverage.

Brian McClure

Brian McClureThe senior-most meteorologist, Brian McClure, is serving weekday nights on Bay News 9. McClure enjoys combining his passion for nature, photography, and weather into his nightly weathercasts.

His passion for weather started during his student life in elementary school as he would pay attention to the clouds. Brian did his graduate degree from N.C. State University.

Furthermore, Brian joined WRAL-TV as an internee meteorologist in Raleigh. He also worked for the National Weather Service Headquarters in Washington D.C. before coming back to TV. Afterward, he joined WNCN-TV in Raleigh, NC, for his first job in television. Then he went on work for WCTI-TV in New Bern, NC. Eastern and Central North Carolina were central during those mid to late 90s, and Brian went through Hurricanes. WTVM-TV hired the meteorologist, the channel serving in Columbus, GA and Brian seemed the hurricanes. In addition, the weathercaster forecasted Frances, Hurricanes, Ivan, and Jeanne that hold major impacts on Georgia and Florida. Bay News 9 hired him in 2005 after the super-active hurricane season.

He became part of one of the strongest weather teams in the United States. Here Brian forecasted severe conditions and tropical storms like Fay, Debby, Barry, Colin, Alberto, Irma, Andera, and Hermine. McClure embraces snow-skiing on top of a ten-thousand-foot mountain in Tampa Bay, watching the gentle lapping surf. Moreover, he honored to receive an Associated Press award for his exclusive coverage of Hurricane Ivan. Juli gets her graduate degree with honors from Loyola University Chicago in communications. Afterward, she was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa academic honor society. The weathercaster earned her meteorology certification from Mississippi State University.

Now, Juli is a proud member of the American Meteorological Society and also earns the AMS Certified Broadcast Meteorologist Seal. The certified Hurricane Awareness instructor also has the certificate of the National Disaster Preparedness Training Center. Juli also participates in hurricane talks and expos in community groups and schools about weather safety and preparedness. Previously, her career started at WTVO-TV in Rockford, Illinois.

Prior to joining Bay News 9 Pasco in 2002, she also served at KMTV in Omaha, Nebraska, for three years. She also received several Associated Press awards for tornado coverage and an Associated Press award for children’s weather education. Juli was nominated for Emmy awards in 2011 and 2016 for continuing coverage of early morning tornadoes.

Alan Winfield

Alan WinfieldMeteorologist Alan Winfield helped bring the Tampa Bay area a brand at the time of its launching in September 1997. The residents of the Bat area still count on the weather on nines for accuracy. Alan’s meteorological career took him across the country’s most volatile weather spots. Furthermore, he got his master’s degree in meteorology from the University of Oklahoma.

Bay News 9 meteorologist started his TV career in Tornado Alley at KJRH-TV in Tulsa, Okla. There he headed to Richmond, Va., at WTVR-TV to give citizens their weather forecasts. However, before joining the weather team, Alan worked at Seattle’s KSTW-TV. He also holds the seal of the American Meteorological Society. He is still available to News 9 Tampa during tropical storm coverage.

In 2002, Spectrum News 9 was the only TV service in the region to feature a VIPIR Doppler radar system. Later in 2007, it even became the only Television network in Florida state to feature a Dual-Pole Doppler Radar System. However,  Krylstron the highly upgraded integrated radar, started operating on 5 January 2009. This latest Bay News 9 radar was capable of seeing the detailed weather conditions compared to the previous ones.

Tampa Bay News 9 Hit the waves for the first time on 24 Sep 1997. Since then, it has been providing weather updates after every ten minutes. The time interval even gets shorter during severe weather conditions such as storms or hurricanes. The channel initially used to broadcast on CH 9 in almost all counties. However, in Pasco County, it used to operate on CH 6. Bright House Networks decided to shift the network to CH 9 in Pasco County on 7 August 2013, thus making it available on almost all cable network services of Bight House in the Tampa Bay region. All the channel’s news services are re-recorded to syndicate, including the weather forecast and breaking News, except for the “Your Morning News.
