Mike Clay

Chief Meteorologist Mike Clay is leading the skillful weather team on the Nines Forecast Center. Viewers can see Mike each weekday afternoon and evening on Tampa Bay News 9. He uses to give alerts about the severe weather threat and Tropical update. Mike switched his broadcasting career from radio to television to serve as a television weather anchor at KCEN-TV in 1985.

Furthermore, in 1990 KXAN-TV promoted Clay to the Chief Meteorologist seat for its weather department. Similarly, Mike worked as a weathercaster in San Antonio and Tyler. Additionally, the meteorologist covered earthquakes, snowstorms, and even volcanoes at the Great Northwest as head of Northwest Cable News. Clay helped launch Tampa Bay News 9 as the original meteorologist on Your Morning News in 1997. According to Mike, his most memorable moment was the morning of 13th August 2004 when Channel 9 Tampa forecast Hurricane Charley.

He received his meteorology degree from Mississippi State University and also held a degree in telecommunications. In 1995, Mike received the AMS TV Seal of Approval and later upgraded to the AMS Certified Seal. Likewise, he holds the National Weather Association’s television and Radio Seal of Approval. Mike and his coworker won a Florida Suncoast Emmy in 2010. Besides, he won a Florida Associated Press award for Best Weathercast for bad weather coverage.

Brian McClure

The senior-most meteorologist, Brian McClure, is serving weekday nights on Bay News 9. McClure enjoys combining his passion for nature, photography, and weather into his nightly weathercasts.

His passion for weather started during his student life in elementary school as he would pay attention to the clouds. Brian did his graduate degree from N.C. State University.

Alan Winfield

Meteorologist Alan Winfield helped bring the Tampa Bay area a brand at the time of its launching in September 1997. The residents of the Bat area still count on the weather on nines for accuracy. Alan’s meteorological career took him across the country’s most volatile weather spots. Furthermore, he got his master’s degree in meteorology from the University of Oklahoma.

Bay News 9 meteorologist started his TV career in Tornado Alley at KJRH-TV in Tulsa, Okla. There he headed to Richmond, Va., at WTVR-TV to give citizens their weather forecasts. However, before joining the weather team, Alan worked at Seattle’s KSTW-TV. He also holds the seal of the American Meteorological Society. In 2002, Spectrum News 9 was the only TV service in the region to feature a VIPIR Doppler radar system. Later in 2007, it even became the only Television network in Florida state to feature a Dual-Pole Doppler Radar System. However,  Krylstron the highly upgraded integrated radar, started operating on 5 January 2009. This latest Bay News 9 radar was capable of seeing the detailed weather conditions compared to the previous ones.

The station offers Klystron 9 interactive Radar which reports current weather with high accuracy. Also, doppler Klystron 9 Radar covers the entire Florida and gives the earliest warnings of severe weather. Rick Elmhorst

A trusted and senior-most anchor and reporter, Rick Elmhorst is serving Spectrum Bay News 9 for over twenty years. He is anchoring Your Midday News during weekdays starting at Noon. Moreover, Rick grew up in rural Wisconsin, but he called Polk County home for over forty years. He initially joined the 24-hour news team as a reporter and afterward also worked as Weekend Evening News Anchor.

Back in 1980, Rick started serving at WCIE radio station while attending Florida Southern College in Lakeland. He also received a distinguished graduate award in 2005 for his graduation in 1984. Rick also worked in television during his sixteen-year radio career. However, he moved into television on a full-time basis in 1998. There he produced a weekly news magazine for the Orlando-based Charisma Magazine. In the same year, he also joined Bay News 9.

Erica Riggins

An award-winning morning anchor, Erica Riggins is anchoring on Bay News 9, the only twenty-four-hour news channel in Tampa Bay. His broadcasting career had an unusual starting. Initially, she worked as an equipment engineer for a telecom companyn for almost seven years after mechanical engineering. Afterward, Erica studied communications and TV journalism and started her career as a journalist as a weekend anchor at KXII-TV. Later she joined the 24-hour news channel News 8 Austin, Spectrum News as a reporter and anchor.

Erica then served as a weekend morning anchor for Spectrum Bay News 9 after moving to the Tampa Bay area. She is anchoring weekday mornings on Your Morning News. About News 9 Tampa Bay

Tampa Bay News 9 Hit the waves for the first time on 24 Sep 1997. Since then, it has been providing weather updates after every ten minutes. The time interval even gets shorter during severe weather conditions such as storms or hurricanes. The channel initially used to broadcast on CH 9 in almost all counties. However, in Pasco County, it used to operate on CH 6. Bright House Networks decided to shift the network to CH 9 in Pasco County on 7 August 2013, thus making it available on almost all cable network services of Bight House in the Tampa Bay region. All the channel’s news services are re-recorded to syndicate, including the weather forecast and breaking News, except for the “Your Morning News.

The channel has a partnership program for its news operations with different local radios and Bay Area Newspapers such as the Citrus County Chronicle, Tampa Bay Business Journal, and The Bradenton Herald. The network also has news bureaus in New Port Richey, Bradenton, Spring Hill, and Tampa.

Currently, the channel is possessed by Charter Communications, and they are managing all their operations.
