KTVT first hit the waves on 11 September 1955 as KFJZ-TV. It was 4rth TV Network in the Fort Worth-Dallas metroplex and the first independent TV channel in the Texas region to hit the air. In May 1960, Texas State Network decided to transfer the ownership rights of KFJZ-TV to the NAFI Telecasting Corporation for 4m dollars. Later, the company flipped the call-signs of Channel 11 from KFJZ to KTVT on 1 September.
Following that, 23 Feb 1962, NAFI Telecasting Corporation sold Channel 11 to WKY Television System for 4m dollars. This deal made KTVT channel the largest TV service by market size to be O&O by the company.
On 14 September, despite the clash, Gaylord and CBS signed a 10-year contract to move the station’s Metroplex affiliation to KTVT. Later, on 12 April 1999, Gaylord declared the sale of KTVT to the CBS Television stations for 485m dollars.
