Why Aaron Ofseyer left WZZM?

Aaron Ofseyer was a weekday morning meteorologist at WZZM weather who left the channel in 2006. He provided services to the channel for more than 9 years during which he made friends with various lifelong friends, and met incredible personalities both on the set and off-the-set. He had to leave the WZZM 13 weather after the station decided to change the leadership within the department. Ofseyer moved from Oregon to start a new role at WZZM News here in West Michigan. Before saying goodbye, Aaron thanked all those people who welcomed him in Michigan, and who was real with him.

While writing his departure post, Ofseyer also addressed his wife and kids and apologized to them since they sacrificed alot for the sake of his job. He further added that his kids don’t have to be quiet in the afternoon anymore only because their dad is taking a rest. It was an emotional goodbye not only for Aaron’s fans but for Aaron himself.

Faran Fronczak was a part of WZZM TV 13 as a Morning News Anchor. She started working at the channel in August 2018 and later in December 2018 decided to leave it. However, both channel and She is currently serving RT as a News Correspondent and Anchor since August 2019. While he was in WZZM 13, Faran handled various tasks such as researching and compiling stories for news transmission, anchoring/ producing content for news telecasts from 4:30 am to 7 am, conducting empowering stories related to West Michigan, covering fresh news frequently, and engaging the audience in digital platforms during all news transmission such as Facebook Live, Instagram, Twitter and more. Here in RT, Fronczak anchors the news daily from 12 pm to 8 pm every hour, excluding 3 pm.

Is Kristin Mazur still at WZZM 13?

No, Kristin Mazur has left the WZZM 13 News. Currently, she is working for Ohio news station WOIO as a news reporter which she joined in January 2021. However, when she left WZZM TV, she joined KENS News San Antonio but only served the station for a very short time and then moved to WOIO.

Brent AshcroftWith more than 30 years of experience in journalism, Brent stepped into the news team of WZZM TV in 2010 and since then has been covering major events in town. He produces his own content daily with thorough research. Meanwhile, Brent also collabs with his photographers to craft long-form, award-winning stories to display on the air and online. So far, Brent’s stories have earned him 67 nominations in Emmy, out of which he won 30. Moreover, Ashcroft also claimed 9 Edward R. Murrow Awards and won one national Edward R. Murrow award. Ashcroft’s experience ranges from field reporting to anchor desk, web, social media, and storytelling. His first 22 years of reporting were all about sports covering major sports events almost everything.

But as the industry took a turn, Brent also decided to explore further in journalism and dove into further journalist’s skills, and eventually get hooked to News Anchoring and reporting.

Brent Ashcroft’s Past Work

Before WZZM 13, Brent was a community service agent at Grand Rapids Sports Hall of Fame Board of Trustees from January 1999 to October 2016. He served as a Master of Ceremonies and selected candidates for inclusion into the Hall of Fame while working for them.

In July 2010, Ashcroft joined Tegna as a Multi-skilled journalist and then left the company after serving it less than a year. Before that, he was a Sports Director at WXMI News from 1999 to 2009.  These 10 years were the longest in his career before the WZZM 13 News, which he has served for 11 years and continues to do so. When working for WXMI, he uplifted the station’s sports department from the scratch by introducing the 10 pm newscast. Moreover, he produced sports content and presented them five nights a week. Meanwhile, he was also taking care of recruiting department, training department, and scheduling of all temporary interns and

photographers. Furthermore, he also wrote and edited sports content and sports blogs for the station’s digital platforms. Brent has once before served the WZZM News for 6 years as a Sports Anchor and Reporter from November 1992-1998. At that time, he used to produce and conduct weekday sports telecasts. Ashcroft took the start from WOOD TV 8 as an Internee and Freelance Photographer. It was almost a 2 years internship. Brent did his Associate’s degree in Communication and Media Studies from Muskegon Community College in 1989. He completed BA Communications at Grand Valley State University in 1991.

Samantha Jacques Work For WZZM 13 NewsSince July 2020, Samantha Jacques has been Linked with WZZM 13 weather. Her passion to learn more about the atmosphere made her pursue weather as a career. The Michigan native is currently representing the WZZM weather team as a Weekend Meteorologist. She appears regularly on the screen and provides what’s important to the public. Jacques wants to use this platform to spread awareness about the importance of environment and atmosphere in children, especially girls, to take part in the STEM field. She loves spending time with her family, doing yoga, admiring nature, and playing with Leo (her dog). Samantha takes her degree in Meteorology at Central Michigan University in 2019.

Jacques’s Past Experiences

When she wasn’t a part of WZZM weather, Samantha was a Teaching Assistant MET 375: Broadcast Meteorology at Central Michigan University from August 2019 to December 2019, the same university where she took her degree. However, she is still a part of the University as a Teaching Assistant MET 140: Severe Weather and Unusual Weather which she joined in September 2018. Through this platform, she wants the students to learn about Meteorology and to show them what it takes to become an excellent meteorologists.

Professional Experience from 2017-2019

Before that, Samantha was a Weekday Meteorologist at 9 & 10 News – Heritage Broadcasting from March 2019 to July 2020. While being a part of their team, her role involved working with the producers and the team to craft a clear, creative, and cohesive weather story. Plus, she also used to deliver the daily forecast based on the latest forecast modelings, radar, satellite, and previous knowledge. Moreover, she was also responsible to craft a 2d and 3D models via MAX Reality to present modern weather explainers. In addition, she was also involved in handling social media-related tasks, mobile app digital weather updates, and more.

In September 2017, Jacques joined News Central 34 as a Meteorologist where she was creating and then presenting live 3 to 4-minute weathercasts for the people of Mid-Michigan two times a week. When not on the screen, Samantha aided the weather squad to forecast, edit, and promote the weather segments. It was that time when she got experienced using the MAX system to develop 2D and 3D models. Jacques took a start in the weather career at Fox 2 News when she completed her 4-months weather internship from May 2018 to August 2018.

WZZM 13 first hit the waves on 1 November 1962 at 6:30 pm. However, right after, launching its first telecast the station went dark after 20 minutes due to a transmitter failure. Though, the technical department tackled the fault and brought the channel back online, 10 minutes later. It has been an ABC affiliate since the beginning. WZZM TV is currently broadcasting under the possession of Tegna Inc.
